Here's another sketchbook sketch. I don't draw superheroes very often but, as I've stated before, I have a soft spot for drawing Daredevil ( and Thor) . My apologies for those of you waiting for a sketchbook. The past couple of weeks have been very busy and getting to the Post Office just wasn't in the cards. They will be in the mail very soon. One of the many sketches I've done in the sketchbooks people have purchased. This one is for Nuv, a friend from work and a strong supporter of mine. Nuv is a big fan of the creature that was on the first page of my 2007 24 Hour Comic noble failure. I fact, one day, he'll actually own the original page. Until then, I hope this will do! I've been drawing a lot lately. Work on the Braids of the Gorgon layouts has begun! Looks like Ken, James and I are going to do 6 pages for the pitch, most of which are action packed! This is a panel from one of the pages of rough layouts. I'm having a blast on these!

In addition to the Braids stuff, I've been working on the sketches for all the Convention Sketchbooks that I've sold (they're still available. see this post for details!). I've been pretty happy with them. Hope the recipients are too!

The Kill All Monsters! pitch pages are complete! They have been colored (by Scott Keating) and lettered (by Kel Nuttall) and are now ready to be sent out in the hopes that they'll find a good publisher to call home. Michael and I are so jazzed about the pages that I feel like I just have to share one of them with y'all! So, here's page 1 for your entertainment!

I'll make sure to keep you all posted on any developments that occur during the publisher hunt!

I am now selling my convention sketchbook. For a measly $5 you get 28 pages of black and white drawing goodness wrapped in a cool gray card stock cover. There is a great range of subject matter and drawing styles contained within. And, there is even a space on the first interior page for an original sketch... by me!! That's right! If you wish, I will sketch you something original right in your very own copy! Please specify what I should draw, if you don't want me just drawing something of my own design. Postage is included in the $5, if sending it regular snail mail is cool with you, otherwise we can work something out.

I thought I'd give you all a peek of the Kill All Monsters! logo that will be gracing the mock cover of our pitch package. The logo (and lettering) for the pitch was done by that wacky "Mad Alaskan", Kel Nuttall. It's amazing what quality lettering does for a book! Thanks, Kel!

Perhapanauts creators, Todd and Craig, seem to really like my work and have expressed their interest in having me do the art for another backup story! Colourist extraordinaire, Scott Keating, has begun to work on the Kill All Monsters! pitch pages and they look amazing! Seriously, if these pages can't get a good publisher to invest in putting this book out, then there is no justice in the world. Sorry about the small image... That's all I've got right now. Once I get the hi-res files, I'll post a bigger image.

James Powell, editor of Braids of The Gorgon, has just written about how he got involved Braids and where we are, in terms of progress in the project. He even shared a couple of my character sketches I've recently done (different drawings from the one I'm sharing!). He's a valued member of the BotG team and a great guy. Here's another page from my convention sketchbook, Marks On Paper. This was a character concept sketch for a book I'll (hopefully) get around to doing sooner than later. Ink drawing with markers for the gray tones. I don't use the markers very often as they are very stinky.

Here's a page from my new convention sketchbook, Marks On Paper. These are a few panels from a short story that Josh Fialkov and I did for a anthology that never materialized. On the left are the panels in their pencilled form, and on the right are the same panels in their final inked form. I like pages like this, as they help show my process, sort of a peek behind the curtain.

The sketchbook will be making its debut at Fallcon, which happens in a few weeks! The books have already been shipped and they will be waiting for me in Minnesota upon my arrival.

I'm just putting the final touches on my very first "convention sketchbook". I'm pretty happy with the drawings that are going into it. I've been talking about making a sketchbook of my various work drawings for quite some time, but now that FallCon is so close, I figured I should get off my ass and actually do it.

Special thanks go out to my wife, Jackie, for helping me sift through the mountains of loose drawings and sketches that litter my work area and organize them. We managed to come up with a good selection of drawings that show a nice range of styles and content. There is even a space on the opening page for me to do a personalized sketch! I'll let you all know when I get some of these bad boys printed up. If you're interested, they will be for sale... just let me know how I should sketch in it. Here's a look at the cover for the sketchbook. It's not finalized, but it's real close.

(Which reminds me, I will be in Minnesota for FallCon 2008 this coming October 4 & 5! Looks to be another great show with tons of cool creators. Let's just hope the weather is cooler than last year. )

That's right! My Perhapanauts pinup, graced with the outstanding coloring skills of Rico Renzi! I spoke with the book's most excellent writer, Todd Dezago, and he did indeed confirm that this little scribble will be in the fourth issue of The Perhapanauts (on sale Sept 24)!

Look, Mom! I'm going to be in an Image comic book!

Oh, and I have more Perhapanauts involvement type news coming on Friday!

For the past week or so I've been working on character sketches for Braids of the Gorgon, the Greek mythology book writer Ken Faggio and I are doing. Amongst the hours spent doing those, I took a bit of time to work on drawing one of my other mythological interests, Thor. Marvel's Daredevil and Thor are the only "Big 2" comic book characters I'd have much enthusiasm doing long term. I think I'd do alright if I was given a stint on Thor.
