Here is that previous panel but with the initial rough sketch(which is the blue in the middle image) and final inks to help illustrate my process better. From here it will get grayscaled and toned, in Photoshop.

Tighten Up
This is an example of the reworking a panel can go through in the inking stage. As you can see, I make decisions about the drawing as I go. The wrench went from Akemi’s left hand to her right hand during the inking phase. I’m not fully sure I made the right choice… but there it is.

Here are 2 shots of the same panel but in different stages. I decided to go back in and tighten up some of the facial details. It’s the faces that really slow me down. Some stuff will change when I go to ink this today, but the road-map is there for the most part.

Here’s a shot of the rough panel next to the finished panel. For the most part, I followed the rough pretty close. I did end up making the panel a little taller so that it fit the page better. I put tone in for the distant figure to try to help it “pop” and not get lost in the background. I think it works fine. I might ditch the tone when the pages get coloured, though. We’ll see.
