This is the pinup I submitted to the 2014 Monsters and Dames book that the fine people at Emerald City Comic Con put together to raise funds for Seattle Children’s Hospital. The line work is me and the amazing colours are by Shari Chankhamma! Fingers crossed that it makes it into the book.
Here is a ink sketch of a monsters and a dame. This is a rough idea for my entry to the Monsters & Dames contest for ECCC. If the final pin up gets chosen, it goes into the convention’s Monsters & Dames book. I’ll have to find a colourist for the final drawing, though. Black and white drawings don’t have a very good chance to make it into the book, I hear.
I was extremely lucky to nab Paul Little (colourist for many comics including Xenoholics (Image) and Bomb Queen (Image)) in time to get the print ready for the Image Comics Expo, this weekend. Paul coloured a short story I drew for Zombie Bomb! a while back and I loved what he had done with it. It was a no-brainer to ask him to colour the KAM print, as well as a few other prints that I will be posting here, next week.
I will have colour and B&W Kill All Monsters prints for the Image show, this weekend. Ed and I will be at table #306. We hope to see you there!
Also in convention news… some awesome news was given to KAM letterer/Murder Book writer Ed Brisson, yesterday. Ed and I got a table for the Emerald City Comicon! I’m very excited about that! Ed and I (and maybe Johnnie Christmas) will have a Murder Book print made up in time for the show! More news on that, as the show gets closer.
So my BIG PLAN was to take some of my favorite Marvel and DC drawings I’ve done, add the amazing talents of colourist Paul Little and make some kick-ass prints out of them to sell at some fast approaching conventions. That was the plan…and then the Marvel vs Gary Friedrich storm hit the comic community.
Even before the poop hit the fan, I was *slightly* uneasy about selling licensed material. Yeah, I know that it is everywhere at conventions. Lots of Artist Alley exhibitors make money selling their versions of licensed characters. It’s been like that for a very long time. But, I’ve never sold anything at conventions that I didn’t own/co-own or have permission to sell and the thought of me doing to Marvel/DC what Marvel/DC do to their creators makes me hesitant to go ahead with my BIG PLAN. The current
The coloured drawings I now have ready to go are wonderful. Paul killed on them. I will share them on here (the first one is gracing this post).
I just don’t know if I will sell them.
It’s Friday! New KAM! pages are up HERE!
Ok. Some news. Steve Niles (of 30 Days of Night fame) has singled out Kill All Monsters! as his web comic of the week in his Robot 6 column, Creator Spotlight. Awesome!!! Thanks, Steve!!
And KAM! got a very nice shout out at Exonauts. Thanks, Jay!
Also, I will be in Seattle this weekend attending the Emerald City Comicon. I will have the limited edition Kill All Monsters! ashcan available for purchase! Drop by booth #610 and pick up a copy. When you do, you will be entitled to have an original KAM! sketch card (while they last)! I hope to see you there!
So, if things are as they should be, the limited edition Kill All Monsters! ashcan will debut this weekend at ECCC! And, as a special “thank you”, there will be some free KAM! sketch cards for the first few copies sold. I’m not sure how many I’ll have for the show, so get there early! You can find the book at the New Reliable Press booth #610.
I hope to see you all at the show!
Some more Kill All Monsters! rough layouts. I’m trying to get ahead of schedule on these because I know that time is going to be hard to find next week as I get ready to go to ECCC! I won’t have a table but KAM! letterer, Ed Brisson, has graciously offered to find some display space for the Kill All Monsters! ashcan on his New Reliable Press table. Thanks, Ed!
I hope to see you all in Seattle next weekend and make sure to drop by and have a look at the limited edition Kill All Monsters! ashcan comic!
